Crescent Point is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title:  Contract Rail Operator (level to be determined)
Location:  Shaunavon, Saskatchewan
Term: Full-time contract (shift work)
Reports to:  Supervisor, Rail

The following will provide you with basic guidelines as to the duties required of this position.


The Contract Rail Operator will be responsible for the safe operation of a new railcar loading facility. This
will entail the loading of clean oil from trucks to railcars via a transloader. There will be significant
coordination efforts required to efficiently operate this site and strict documentation of all products
transferred through this facility. The candidates should reside in Shaunavon area due to the location of
the role. Specific training will be provided for all aspects involved in this new facility.

Main Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Provide daily inspections of railcars and equipment to ensure safe conditions and operation
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is complete
  • Perform railcar transfer preparation including: installing bolt-on/bolt-off fittings, making hose connections and taking product samples
  • Coordinate tank trucks schedule
  • Conduct transfer of crude oil from tank trucks into railcars
  • Plan railcar traffic schedule with railway
  • Ensure adequate supplies of the crude oil on the site
  • Shift: 7 days on / 7 days off (12 hour day or night shifts)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Grade 12 diploma is required
  • Previous oilfield and/or trucking experience is required
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Railway experience would be an asset
  • Must be flexible to ever-changing conditions
  • Strong communication, organizational and team skills are required
  • Team player with strong work ethic and receptive to new ideas
  • Safety training current and up to date including: First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive TDG/WHMIS, Fire Extinguisher Training, Ground Disturbance (level II), and Defensive Driving
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work on elevated surfaces
