Crescent Point is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title:  Risk Manager
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Reports to:  Vice President, Corporate Planning

The following will provide you with basic guidelines as to the duties required of this position.


The Risk Manager is responsible for enhancing the Company’s processes and controls around risk, including: developing and improving policies and procedures, measuring and analyzing various risks, assisting in the development of risk mitigation strategies, and reporting on risks. The focus is primarily on counterparty credit risks, but may also include monitoring price risk initiatives, analyzing and coordinating insurance policies, as well as assisting with enterprise risk management initiatives.

Main Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Develop and improve on methodologies for counterparty credit assessments
  • Coordinate completion and overseeing of annual and periodic counterparty credit assessments, including determination of enhanced frequencies where appropriate
  • Liase with counterparties to access necessary quantitative and qualitative information required to perform assessments
  • Liase with internal marketing group as well as external resources, to ensure all relevant information is utilized within the assessments
  • Develop, implement and improve on decision tools to determine the optimal portfolio mix of counterparties based on prescribed metrics
  • Report to senior management, including the Risk Management Committee, as well as the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, on a regular basis to provide information on portfolio measures
  • Act as point person for all matters related to the Company’s counterparty credit insurance strategies
  • Participate on the Insurance Committee to assist in managing the Company’s P&C, Loss Contingency, D&O and other forms of insurance related to the overall protection of the Company’s balance sheet
  • Liase with external resources, including legal counsel, regulator bodies, insurance brokers and insurance providers, to accurately understand risks and liabilities and assist in developing strategies to mitigate risk
  • Perform regular analysis on the financial and physical hedge positions
  • Participate in industry groups to enhance the visibility and knowledge base of the Company’s credit department
  • Train internal resources and develop risk understanding through the organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Commerce, Finance or related field is required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in credit assessments and/or risk management is required
  • Relevant oil and gas industry experience would be an asset
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to train and motivate junior staff is required
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are required
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter with excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to represent the company in a professional manner
  • Team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals
